The pegmatites of Mount Malosa are famous for beautiful Smokey Quartz crystals as well as Aegirine and Zircon. The mining area is at a high elevation and difficult to reach. Miners must bring supplies for several days as it is not possible to go and up and down in a single day.
Named after Aegir, the Scandinavian god of the sea. Aegirine is a dark green to black mineral that forms prismatic crystals. (Cairncross, The Field Guide to Rocks and Minerals of Southern Africa, page 165). Aegirine is a member of the clinopyroxene group of inosilicate minerals.
Judy Hall indicates in The Crystal Companion that Aegerine is renowned for its properties relating to strength and healing properties; protecting those who are sensitive to low-frequency radiation, and facilitating deep emotional healing.
Intergrown with natural smoky quartz, this Aegirine specimen "is a wonderful too for removing or stuck energies...and for activating the positive flow that should be there. Aegirine crystals are excellent protection.", as stated by Robert Simmons (The Book of Stones, page 3).
Nharo started traveling to Africa in mid-2002. A family business, we began our company by buying arts and crafts. Over time the fantastic minerals drew our attention. Craft buying taught us how to deal with African artists respectfully and we applied the cultural lessons and experience we had acquired in a new direction at the mines.
We are located in Toronto's west end at 300 New Toronto St. Unit 19, Etobicoke, Ontario M8V2E8.
