A beautiful green fluorite from the Riemvasmaak, near the Orange River in South Africa.
We were very lucky during out March 2017 trip to South Africa to purchase a large collection of Orange River Fluorites from Riemvasmaak in the Northern Cape, South Africa.
This specimen has well formed octahedral crystals.
?The cause of the beautiful green colour is unknown, it may be related to associated radioactive or rare-earth species, samples where tested and yielded surprising results; isotopes in the rare-earth element lanthanide series; lanthanum, ytterbium, cerium, neodymium, samarium, europium, gadolinium and holmium were detected although amounts were not determined.?
