Nharo traveled to crocodile farms in Limpopo, South Africa. Rampant poaching of wild crocodiles, mainly for their leather, meant that the species were in a steep decline. A solution to reduce stress on wild crocodiles was to create croc farms. The main output is leather and meat. The skulls are often discarded. We asked farms to collect and clean the skulls of the crocodiles.
This skull was legally imported into Canada using CITES permit. Farmed Crocodiles from South Africa are classified under CITES Appendix II meaning that international trade is monitored and controlled. As such, these skulls are:
